Custodians play an essential role in the Burnaby School District. The Custodian performs a variety of custodial duties to ensure the safety, cleanliness and security of district buildings and grounds. Custodians work throughout the District in a variety of shifts (day, afternoon, late evening and weekend shifts). Most shifts are 3:00 - 11:00 p.m.
We are looking for outstanding employees who understand standard cleaning procedures, as well as the use and application of chemicals, products, and equipment.
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 12
- Building Service Worker (BSW) Certificate
- Six (6) months of relevant work experience
- Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
- Ability to read and understand labels and instructions, particularly in the use and application of cleaning chemicals and products
- Effective verbal and listening communications skills
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural setting with staff, students, parents and general public
- Ability to work as a team player with little or no supervision
- Physically capable of performing all assigned duties (includes walking, standing, stooping, reaching, lifting, moving furniture, and carrying equipment & materials)
- Ability to make decisions, solve problems and manage time effectively

What the District offers:
- Regular positions are eligible for sick days, (up to 20 days for full year entitlement), vacation days (based on years of seniority), dental and extended health benefits, life insurance, gratuity pay/leave, long-term disability, and pension
- Casual staff in temporary positions are eligible for holiday pay (4%), sick days (earned as you work), dental and extended health benefits
