APPLYING FOR A TEACHING POSITION
To teach in Burnaby applicants must possess the necessary qualifications. Most teachers begin in Burnaby as a teacher-on-call. When a contract position becomes available, it is posted as an internal job bulletin and applications are accepted from those currently on staff.
If an internal candidate cannot be found, positions are then posted on-line through Make a Future – Careers in BC Education. The Make a Future site is powered by applytoeducation.com, therefore if you have an existing account with them, you can use your username and password to log into www.makeafuture.ca. If not, you can create an account on Make a Future by clicking “Register”. Once you have an account, please sign up for the “Job Alert” feature so you are emailed jobs that interest you.
Please note that candidates also have the option of applying to our District by mail, however, applications should only be submitted by one method – either by paper or on-line. Paper applications may be sent at any time of the year to:

Your covering letter should include which position applied for (grade or subject area), when you are available, your main assets, strengths and talents. Yours resume should include your name, address, phone number, e-mail address, education, degrees/diplomas, certificates, work history, awards, publications, and professional references. Your package should also include a copy of your BC Teachers’ certificate, a copy of your transcripts, a copy of your final practicum report, and a statement of your philosophy.

APPLYING FOR A SUPPORT POSITION
Applications are accepted ongoing for on-call casual positions. On-call employees may be assigned to any Burnaby school and are called when assignments become available. Support staff positions include:
- clerical
- youth and child care worker
- educational assistant
- custodial
- food service worker
- student supervisor
- other support
